International Day of Happiness – why helping makes us happy!

International Day of Happiness

International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.

It was created in a bid to raise awareness of the things within our lives that make us happy and is celebrated on 20th March each year.

Everyone faces hard and trying times, but through it all there will always be something you can be grateful for. Family, friends, a roof over your head and food in your belly. These all seem like the basics and it would be easy to take them for granted. In such humbling times I think it’s important that we hold everything close and breathe a sigh of relief, because we are so incredibly lucky to have what we do.

One of the things that can bring happiness to so many people is giving back to your local community and the people in it. Coming together to make amazing things happen can ultimately change lives. This is totally achievable with the right attitude so let’s celebrate what makes your local community great! With happiness being described as a ‘fundamental human goal’ by the initiative it’s up to us to make it happen.
