A bit about Yateley Town News

Yateley is a town in the county of Hampshire situated within the district of Hart, with a population of 14,685 (2021 Census).

The town’s name derives from the Middle English ‘Yate’ meaning ‘Gate’ and ‘Lea’ which was a ‘forest clearing’.

Yateley Town Council are recognised under the national ‘Quality Council’ award scheme and in 2011 Yateley was mentioned on BBC News after Hart district was named the UK’s most desirable place to live.

There are several schools in Yateley including Westfields Infant School, Cranford Park C of E Primary School and Yateley Manor School. Frogmore Community College is one of three secondary schools in the town with Yateley School known as the largest secondary school in North East Hampshire and Hurst Lodge School an all-through independent school.

Football and cricket have a longstanding history in Yateley with their cricket club established in 1881 and football club founded in 1927. Both sports have had modern touch ups recently though with YCC moving to a new purpose built ground and clubhouse at Sean Devereux Park in 1999 and Yateley United FC forming in 2013 after merging with four other local clubs; Yateley, Yateley Green, Yateley Youth and Beaulieu.

Notable residents of Yateley include English pop and R&B singer Alexa Goddard, charity worker Sean Devereux, former Hampshire cricketer Chris Benham and professional footballer and current West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace.
