A bit about Kings Hill & The Mallings

Kings Hill, and East Malling all both a civil parish in the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling in Kent, whereas West Malling is a historic market town, also situated within the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent.

West Malling is an area of significant historical value with historic buildings such as St Leonard’s Tower, a Norman keep built by Bishop Gundulf (bishop between 1077 and 1108). Other buildings of interest include the Prior’s House, once a residence for those with leprosy, and Ford House which is over 600 years old. West Malling is also reputed to be the site of the first recorded cricket match in Kent. Located 2.4 miles southeast of West Malling is the parish of East Malling and Larkfield which dates back to 1962, has an expanding residential area and is in the heart of the hop fields and fruit-growing region. The village continues to grow with new housing developments being built amongst three schools in Larkfield, a small shopping area at Martin Square, which also provides a library, a modern health centre, and a retirement home.

On the contrary, the civil parish of Kings Hill is one of several new villages built in Kent since the 1950s. Developed in 1989 with the aim of creating a multi-purpose site of both business and residential space, on land previously occupied by RAF West Malling, Kings Hill now consists of a multitude of businesses and amenities. Facilities in Kings Hill include, three primary schools (Kings Hill Primary, the Discovery School, Valley Invicta Primary School), a doctors surgery, a veterinary surgery, opticians, pharmacist, Kings Hill Sports Park, The Spitfire Shepherd Neame pub, major supermarkets Waitrose and Asda, restaurants, cafes, two churches and a David Lloyd Leisure Health Club.
