A bit about Billericay

Billericay is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Basildon with a population of 34, 274 (2011 Census). The town was first recorded as ‘Byllyrica” in 1291 and the town’s most notable historical event was the Battle of Billericay during the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381. Billericay is served by a community radio station, Phoenix FM, based in Brentwood and the town is also the popular setting of former BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey. The town has five secondary schools, Mayflower High, Ramsden Hall Academy, St John’s School and The Billericay School. Notable alumni include Britain’s Got Talent winner Diversity who attended Mayflower and British model David Gandy and comedian Lee Evans who were educated at The Billericay School. There are some major sporting clubs in the town including Billericay Football Club, Rugby Club, Mayflower Archers and Billericay Striders Running Club.
