Halloween Decorating Ideas

Halloween decorating ideas

It’s only a few sleeps away before you get to dress up as your favourite characters on the spooky night of Halloween. You’ve probably already seen intricately decorated front porches full of frightening things. It can be difficult to fully decorate your house if you’re a busy bee buzzing about everywhere. But don’t worry, you still have time! If you still want to decorate your front porch, have a read through these Halloween decorating ideas for last minute inspirations.

Giant spider on web

Spook some folks with a giant spider chilling on its web. Hang it on the wall outside of your house and it’s sure to give everyone knocking on your door a scare. This giant spider and web can be found on Amazon and can turn your house into something spooky. However, this isn’t ideal for people who have arachnophobia. If you or anyone in your household is scared of spiders, you can opt for just the spider web.

Witch legs

For fans of The Wizard of Oz, pay tribute to the film and place some witch legs on your outside wall before you scurry off down the yellow brick road. This gives the illusion of a crushed witch underneath your home. However, you can place the witch legs anywhere you want, such as inside a crate of poison apples.

A hanging/sitting clown

We all know that clowns can be scary as we’ve seen from the film IT. If you want to add more horror to your front porch, including a clown in your decorations will do the trick! Hang the clown up to increase the creepy vibe or have it sit down ready to welcome guests…

A ‘Keep Out’ entrance

Transforming your door into an unwelcoming ‘Keep Out’ entryway is a perfect Halloween decoration. What goes on behind the door will be up to the trick or treaters’ imagination. There might be a lab behind the door or it might be keeping zombies in… Anything is possible and people will surely give your door a little knock.

To achieve this look, grab some fake cobwebs and stretch them out over your door. Cut some cardboard pieces and make it look like slabs of wood; write the words ‘Keep’ and ‘Out’ on two separate boards and hang them up. You should then have a menacing-looking entryway!

Candles dripping with blood

If you want a dark look and to give off a mysterious vibe, place some candles dripping with blood on your porch. This will achieve a vampire effect and might even give people the idea that they’re knocking on Dracula’s door. Try to opt for fake candles instead of real ones since you always need to keep an eye on live flames. If you’re using real candles, make sure they’re not near anything flammable or you can keep them unlit instead, which will still achieve that dark look!

A perching owl

For fans of the magical and for those who don’t want anyone’s heart to stop, decorating your porch with an owl is perfect. This is also a great idea for the Harry Potter fanatics who love Harry’s owl, Hedwig. Have the owl perch on your wall or on your doorstep to give trick or treaters a wisdom of knowledge.

Skeletons and graveyard headstones

Who can forget about the classic skeleton and graveyard headstones? Skeletons are a symbol of Halloween and the undead, and if you have a particularly large front porch, this is definitely doable! Place some graveyard headstones on your grass and lay some skeletons; you can even have an arm reaching out for a perfect depiction of an undead army.
