Dover District Council Local Plan Review Update

Snow Wardens - Could You Help Our Communities Keep Moving This Winter

New Transport Models commissioned in response to call for sites

Dover District Council in partnership with Kent County Council and Highways England has commissioned WSP Consulting Engineers to develop a transport model of Deal.  This follows a strong response to a ‘call for sites’ as part of the Local Plan Review where sites across the district have been put forward by land owners for potential development.

The model will be developed by extending the existing Dover Transport Model to cover all the key roads, in and around Deal.  As part of the model development WSP will survey traffic flows to help identify issues such as ‘pinch points’ and ‘rat running’. This information will help to assess the need for new transport infrastructure including possible improved connectivity between Dover and Deal.  The model will also be used to assess the suitability of sites put forward by landowners.

Alongside the modelling work, WSP in partnership with LDA Design will undertake a detailed analysis of the North Deal area.  This is a key commitment in the Council’s Adopted Core Strategy and will investigate whether place-making and infrastructure solutions can be found to benefit existing residents and identify opportunities to create further development.

Cllr Jim Back, Cabinet Member for Built Environment, said: “It’s vital that we base the Local Plan on an up-to-date transport model and a thorough review of infrastructure.  As well as providing data on existing traffic conditions this will also enable us to better plan for potential future development and the needs of local residents.”
