Armed forces community supported in Medway

Medway Council continues to show its support to the armed forces community.

Cllr Howard Doe, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder of Community Services, has signed an updated version of the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of Medway Council.

The Armed Forces Covenant focuses on ensuring services are provided to members of the armed forces community, from education and family well-being to advice on starting a new career.

Earlier this year Medway Council was honoured by the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, receiving the bronze award for its ongoing pledge to support the armed forces, including employing reservists, armed forces veterans, cadet instructors and their families.

Cllr Howard Doe, an Armed Forces Champion, said: “There is a strong armed forces community in Medway and the council is committed to ensuring support is provided to serving personnel, as well as veterans. We will continue to work closely with local military units to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the armed forces and show our recognition of their work.”

The Armed Forces Covenant

Medway Council is a member of the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge by the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

We joined the covenant to ensure members of the armed forces in Medway receive the support they need and have the same access to government services and products as any other citizen.
