New improved Hampshire Libraries newsletter

Your library newsletter, Read All About It, has taken a break while we took time to make sure we had everyone’s email preferences right.  We took the opportunity to give our newsletter a bit of a freshen up. You can also get news, events and information emailed to you from a library near you: manage your subscriptions online.

Christmas is coming…

There’s plenty going on at Hampshire Libraries to get you in the festive mood.  There are Christmas crafts at Lymington and Emsworth libraries, Christmas stories and songs at Stubbington Library(with a visit from Father Christmas) and a Winter Reading Challenge in many of our branches. Winchester Discovery Centre is home to Footprints in the Snow, a musical children’s show inspired by the magic of Scandinavian Christmas.  For more seasonal fun, search our events programme or details of our holiday opening hours. And if you’re after inspiration for recipes and crafts, browse through our catalogue searching for all things Christmas.

BorrowBox – our new app for eBooks and audiobooks

Our brand new app for downloading ebooks and audiobooks is BorrowBox and replaces the Libby app.  It’s easy to use and stocked with exciting titles.  Everyone with a Hampshire Library card can download books using BorrowBox for free.  Once you’ve downloaded the BorrowBox app, you’ll need to enter Hampshire Library Service as your library, your library number and your library PIN (check with your library if you’ve lost it).  You’ll then have an entire online library at your fingertips. Check ourInside Libraries update for more information.

100 Words for 100 Years Writing Competition

The judges in our competition to write 100 words on a theme of the First World War were impressed and moved by the wonderful entries – we received more than 700!  Our winners were: in the primary school category, Emily Downs for her piece Dear Ma; in the secondary school category, Amalka Slavikova forThe War to End All Wars; and in the adults’ category, Gill Learner for Time Out.  Gill’s entry was based on her Auntie Bob who joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment during the First World War.  Her winning entry, and the other winners and runners up can be read on our WWI commemorative website.
