New Whitstable Pearl book novel launches from RNLI Lifeboat Station

A new book in the Whitstable Pearl Mystery series is set to have its launch event at Whitstable’s RNLI Lifeboat station on Thursday August 25th at 6.30pm with all the ticket proceeds going to Whitstable RNLI.

Murder at Mount Ephraim, the ninth book in the popular series written by Whitstable author, Julie Wassmer, is set on the real-life 800 acre estate of Mount Ephraim near Faversham, but features Whitstable private detective, Pearl Nolan, who owns a seafood restaurant called The Whitstable Pearl.

Former EastEnders writer, Julie, says: “The books are now a TV series, Whitstable Pearl, made by the streaming channel Acorn TV and in one episode, Mount Ephraim was actually used as a stunning location. I suddenly realised what a perfect setting the historic manor house and its 10 acres of beautiful gardens would make for a classic ‘closed circle’ country house murder mystery novel. During the Covid pandemic, when Mount Ephraim couldn’t open for weddings or other events, I managed to spend time there, staying in the beautiful Garden Wing while exploring the grounds and soaking up the atmosphere – and the result is Murder at Mount Ephraim. I’m very grateful to the Dawes family for allowing me to stay in their ancestral home to do my research, and also to Whitstable RNLI for offering me the Lifeboat Station as a brilliant venue for this event and I’m also very pleased that all the ticket proceeds will be going to this much-loved organisation.”

The launch event will include a talk from Julie about her books and the TV series which stars Kerry Godliman as Pearl and Howard Charles as Canterbury police detective DCI McGuire.  A second season of Whitstable Pearl was filmed this spring and will begin streaming later this year.
