Surveys to help develop transport improvement schemes for Burgess Hill town centre.

Survey work starts soon to help develop a package of sustainable transport improvement schemes for Burgess Hill town centre.

County council contractors will be carrying out traffic, parking and topographical surveys in the town during the week beginning 4 November. Interviews will be conducted with car park users and fixed cameras used for counting pedestrian, cycle and vehicle movements through specific junctions.

A county council spokesperson said: “We are working in partnership with Mid Sussex District Council and Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership to develop sustainable transport schemes within the Burgess Hill Place and Connectivity Programme as a key element of the Burgess Hill Strategic Growth Programme.

“The surveys will help inform our work on a package of transport improvements for Burgess Hill town centre to deliver more sustainable transport infrastructure and help to improve connectivity and reduce congestion and journey times.”

Proposals will see significant investment in sustainable transport improvements to support the growth of Burgess Hill. A holistic approach will link with town centre regeneration plans and new and existing employment and residential areas, including the Northern Arc development.

The county council and Mid Sussex District Council will be engaging with stakeholders and the public early in 2020 to discuss the initial designs.
