Sounds of Essex youth Music and Wellbeing Festival

The Sounds of Essex free youth festival is back in Chelmsford on Saturday 30 June. A collaboration between Essex Music Education Hub, Essex Youth Service and Young Essex Assembly the event is a celebration of young music making and youth culture while promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.

From 10am to 6pm in Central Park, Chelmsford there will be a range of activities to enjoy – rides, photo booths, caricature artists, a climbing wall and graffiti sessions – all set against the backdrop of an ever changing soundtrack from young music makers in Essex.
Sounds of EssexThe music will range from orchestras, jazz, choirs, world music, singer-songwriters and rock bands and celebrates young people’s musical learning and skills across Essex. There will be both organised performances and free workshops giving the chance to experience new music and sounds.
Once the day time activities end the festival continues at 7pm with a free concert in Chelmsford Cathedral of Island an oratorio by Jeremy Harmer and Phil Toms performed by Essex school choirs and orchestras.
Essex County Councillor Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Education said:
“The Sounds of Essex festival showcases all that is exciting and vibrant about our youth services in Essex. It is such a positive event, giving everyone the chance to experience the young music culture in the county.”

The YEA are working with Essex Music Services to hold a festival on 30 June in Central Park, Chelmsford. Our aim during the festival is to raise awareness of mental health.

As well as the music, there will be a range of activities which will be enjoyable and promote good emotional wellbeing:
  • Be aware: health, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, photo booth, uniformed organisations, MIND, Youth Services, NCS, YEA 101 ways to feel good project, Bushcroft
  • Be helpful: Youth councils, YEA, volunteering opportunities, NCS
  • Be mindful: healthy living, smoothie bike, craft and wellbeing activities
  • Be active: bouncy castles, sport displays and stalls, treasure hunt, climbing wall
  • Be creative: craft activities, graffiti wall, circus skills, photo boot
