On Saturday 29 June, the doors of Chelmsford City Council’s Recycling and Waste Depot will be open once again for residents to find out everything they need to know about recycling in Chelmsford.

This will be the Council’s seventh open day at Freighter House, Drovers Way, Boreham which offers residents of the city and the surrounding areas to come along and find out exactly what happens to all the materials that they put out for collection.  The event opens at 10am and finishes at 2pm.

Adults and children of all ages are invited to join a tour of the depot, including a chance to look around and sit in the Council’s different collection vehicles – which is especially popular with younger visitors!

Freighter House is also home to Chelmsford’s Street Care services. It’s not an easy task to maintain a clean and tidy city with 1,400 miles of roads and paths. The friendly street care staff will be on hand to explain how they manage their operations and will be able to answer any questions.

The ‘Love Your Chelmsford’ team will be in attendance offering advice and giving out information on litter picking events across Chelmsford.

Councillor Jude Deakin, cabinet member for Safer Chelmsford said, “The Recycling Open Day is always a very popular event with families and is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn first-hand about the importance of recycling.

“Single-use plastics are a hot topic at the moment, and we really must do what we can to reduce our use of these, but plastics are just the beginning: we need to reduce, reuse and recycle whatever we can, whenever we can if we are to reduce our impact on the planet.

“Make sure you enter our recycling quiz on the day to be in with a chance of winning a hamper from Lathcoats. A toy recycling truck will also be up for grabs for our younger visitors.”

Free visitor parking is available on site. If you require further information about the event, please call 01245 615800 or you can follow @Recycle4Chelmsford on Facebook.
