There is a lot to enjoy at Medway Archives Centre over the summer months. Why not come along and enjoy one of our insightful talks, or visit our  exhibition celebrating the Short brothers, or bring the children along and take part in our children’s History Trail, or why not take the opportunity to share your own memories and join one of our reminiscence sessions. Medway Archives Centre is a perfect place to spend a few hours and delve into the history of Medway, with a vast range of images, resources and knowledgeable staff, you’ll come away with a greater understanding and enthusiasm.

Exhibition: Taking to the Skies: Short Brothers in Kent.

Discover the forty years of aeronautical innovation and change the Short Brothers led in their time at Rochester. Learn about the two younger brothers’, Oswald and Eustace Short, their fascination with ballooning; their pioneering work and their innovations in design and manufacture, and how this impacted modern aviation.

Free to attend. Runs until Tuesday, 17 September

 

Talk:  Short Brothers in Rochester: An illustrated talk by Philip MacDougall.

Come along to hear Philip MacDougall give an insightful talk on the Short Brothers’ time in Rochester. You’ll discover the huge effect their aviation innovations had on the local area and country as a whole.

Reminiscence Sessions

Join us for our reminiscence series, where you can share Your Medway Memories. Bring along photographs if you have them, or just listen to others. These sessions are a great way to meet other like-minded people who have a shared history in the area.

The Children’s History Trail

Aimed at children aged 6-12, we invite you to come and uncover the history of Medway with us.

Super Sleuths should collect their map and quiz sheet from reception.

Exhibition: Watt’s Charity in Medway

Come and explore the life of Richard Watts and the Watts Charity that was formed following his death in 1579. Discover his life and works and the legacy he left for the people of Rochester, and the support the charity has provided for the last 400 years.

Special Event: WWII Commemoration

Come along to our special event that will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of world war two.
