The Really Promising Company

Really Promising Company

The Really Promising Company is a community opera company based in Canterbury.

The Canterbury based amateur performance group produce original shows, usually with a local theme. In March 2020 the group are performing ‘Dreamlands’ at the Marlowe Studio and as part of the preparation for this they are holding 2 workshops at St Mary Bredin Church Hall on 31st August and 14th September as outlined in the attached flyer.

Dreamlands has been written by Jane Jones and the music composed by Lewis Edmunds, both of whom live and work locally. (Lewis met Jane who is a local dentist several years ago when he was having a routine dental check up!)  It is a play with music and singing about someone with dementia rekindling memories of time spent in Margate.

Recent works, ‘A La Emma’ and ‘The Canterbury Belles’ have been staged at the Marlowe Studio to high critical acclaim and with work focusing on their next production ‘Dreamlands’ which will be staged at the Marlowe in March 2020, the productions are open to all and there are no auditions. The workshops provide an opportunity to welcome new members and to develop stage and singing skills with help from professional and experienced teachers.

The company was formed in 2006 following the production  of ‘Promised Land’ which was a community opera with professional singers that was staged at the Marlowe Theatre. We have  staged original musical productions regularly ever since and welcome anybody to join us. There are no auditions and we are always delighted to welcome new members. Experience is certainly not required but laughter  and enjoyment is guaranteed!
