New Year Winter Steam Up, Mince Pie Specials and Kids for a Quid

Visit the Spa Valley Railway between Christmas and New Year for an exciting new event taking place on Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 December 2018 and 31 December 2018 & 1 January 2019 when everyone can enjoy mince pies and children can travel for just £1.

An increased service will operate over the weekend which will see two steam locomotives in service including the impressive 1901 built Great Western Railway Locomotive No. 813 visiting courtesy of the Severn Valley Railway and the GWR 813 Preservation Fund.

This weekend will be the only chance to experience the engine operating on her own as the other remaining services for 2018 and into early 2019 will likely be a top and tailed arrangement with a heritage diesel.

Running alongside 813 will be another visiting Steam Locomotive No. 1982 ‘Ring Haw’ courtesy of the North Norfolk Railway. This delightful and extremely powerful Hunslet locomotive last visited the railway in 2017 and makes a welcome return to the Spa Valley Railway where she will be based away from her Norfolk home for the 2019 season.

The final locomotive to operate over this special weekend will be the newly arrived and rather rare heritage diesel, Class 31/4 31430 ‘Sister Dora’.

At Tunbridge Wells West newly arrived Hunslet ‘Newstead’ will be on static display for visitors to see. This engine has arrived at the Spa Valley Railway for an overhaul estimated to last 2 to 3yrs, after which ‘Newstead’ will join the railway’s operating fleet of locomotives.

Also, in the Engine Shed will be LBSCR Terrier No. 650 ‘Sutton’ which is getting ever closer to a return to steam.

Tunbridge Wells West departures: 10:20, 11:10, 12:00, 12:50, 13:40, 14:30, 15:20 and 16:10.

Eridge departures: 11:10, 12:00, 12:50, 13:40, 14:30, 15:20, 16:10 and 17:00.

There will also be the unique opportunity to have a go at driving a real life Steam or Diesel locomotive, under the instruction of one of the railway’s drivers but please remember to book early via the railway’s website to secure your preferred date and time.
