Craig welcomes £50,000 of funding for Rescuing Ramsgate’s Rock Gardens

Craig Mackinlay MP has welcomed confirmation that ‘Rescuing Ramsgate’s Rock Gardens’ has successfully bid for money from the Coastal Revival Fund.

The project – which has been classed as ‘at risk’ by Historic England – will receive £50,000 to conserve and enhance Ramsgate’s nationally significant collection of Pulhamite rock gardens, which have become an important feature of Ramsgate life.

It is one of 25 successful applications the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government received from schemes in England.

Craig Mackinlay MP commented:

“There can be few other better known Ramsgate landmarks than the iconic Pulhamite Rock Garden.

“Thousands of people pass it each day in cars, buses or on foot and the colourful gardens have become a favourite with photographers and visitors alike.

“This funding is, therefore, really important and demonstrates the Government’s support for Ramsgate.

“There is always more we can do and I will continue to my efforts to bring sustainable economic regeneration to towns and villages in my South Thanet constituency.”

Coastal Communities Minister, Jake Berry MP, said:

“It’s fantastic to be able to kick start the restoration of twenty-five important sites up and down our Great British coastline.

“From Whitehaven to Weymouth, we’re saving some of the nation’s most cherished coastal heritage assets and landmarks from falling into disrepair.

“The  Coastal Community Fund also helps regenerate our coastal communities and support them to grow by bringing these sites back to life and making them the focal points of their communities once more.”
