Neurological Café opens in Rochester

A new neuro café has celebrated its opening on the 17th January this year at Jasper’s community café in the Rochester Community Hub with the Mayor of Medway Cllr. Habib Tejan.

This initiative by the Medway Neurological Network was started with another joint project with the Peninsula Opportunities group and the wHoo Cares project in enterprises to reduce isolation originally on the Hoo Peninsula. They have since joined up with Medway Adult Education and have helped launch/promote six new neuro cafes to provide coffee and companionship.

Each week of the month will be hosted by a different neurological charity who will display the neurological condition and give more specific information; people with any condition are welcome to come to the Café.

1st Friday: Parkinson’s UK/Ataxia UK

2nd Friday: Motor Neurone Disease Association

3rd Friday: Dystonia Society

4th Friday: Functional Neurological Disorder – FND action

On Friday’s the café will be open from 1 pm – 3 pm, in association with optional Medway Adult Education Thai Chi course from 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm. On Tuesday’s, from 11 am – 1 pm there will be a therapeutic ‘Drumming for the mind’ class with the option of meeting up afterwards for refreshments and a chat at the café.
