Medway Youth Awards nomination deadline approaches

The deadline for the Medway Youth Awards nomination is quickly approaching.

The Medway Youth awards, hosted by the Medway Youth Council (MYC), aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of young people and the deadline for nominations is set to close on 30th April.

This year’s awards are supported by the Medway Youth Council, Medway Youth Service and their Partners Gillingham Football Club and Questor Insurance

Medway Youth AwardsThe awards ceremony will take place from 6.30-9.00pm on Tuesday 10th July 2018 at The Priest fields Conference and Banqueting Suite.

The ceremony will include dinner and performances from talented local young people.

Be inspired to nominate a young person for an Award ensuring they receive the wider recognition that their skills, talents and achievements deserve.

They looking for nominations for young people who attend a school or youth club, live or work in Medway. Anyone from the age of 11 to 18 (up to 24 for a young person with additional needs) can be nominated.

As part of the celebration, they believe that it takes a village to raise a child and for this reason they want to recognise those adults in their community whose commitment is helping inspire the next generation along their journey. They are looking for an exceptional coach or mentor, innovative youth work or a teacher who goes above and beyond to support their pupils.

Nominations will open on 1st March and can be completed online here or by post to Medway Youth Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham ME4 4TR

Nominations close on 30th April.

The youth & adult categories are:

The Chatham Maritime Trust Award for young people & Adults involved in Community Action

This is aimed at someone who is involved in work that helps their community. They want to be able to recognise the contribution and commitment they have made to young people living in Medway

The McDonald’s Courage and Inspiration Award

This award is for individuals who have supported young people who are showing courage in coping with adversity; this can be illness or disability. They will have made it possible for the young people to enjoy their lives.

The Nucleus Arts Creative Arts Award

This award is for individuals who have supported and guided young people in any form of creative work including music, dance or drama. This will also include those who work back stage i.e. lighting, costumes etc. They may have inspired young people to make the creative arts their goal in life.

The Questor Insurance Learning and achieving Award

They want to recognise those who have worked to help young people develop their learning. They are looking for an inspirational teacher or mentor who will have helped young people go beyond in any form of learning.

The Gillingham Football Club Sporting and Physical Achievement Award

The adults here will have helped and supported young people to be the best that they can in their chosen sport or activity. They will have demonstrated all the personal skills to support and guide young people to achieve or develop their skills.

The Kent Police Young Volunteer Award (young person only)

To qualify they must not be in receipt of any income or wages for the work or activity which is being recognised. The activity or work may support or benefit a Medway community this can include people or the environment. The activity or work can be for a continuous provision or a one of event and can be for individuals or groups.

The Youth Worker of the Year (adult only)

The activity or work may support or benefit a Medway community – this must include children and young people. The activity or work can be for a continuous provision or a one-off event and can be for an individual or groups of young people.
