Councillor Jessamy Blanford, who served as Mayor of Ashford during the term of 2018-2019, was on hand to present cheques from The Mayor of Ashford’s Charity to both Kent Wildlife Trust and The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust on 24 September 2019.

In her presentation speech, Cllr Blanford said, “One of the good things about being Mayor is being able to support local charities during the Mayoral year. So it was with great pleasure that I was able to hand over cheques to the two charities I chose. Firstly the Kent Wildlife Trust. This organisation works very hard in the Ashford Borough to support green issues – from maintaining the Hothfield Heathlands, the Warren and Conningbrook Lakes amongst many other projects.”

Cheque for Kent Wildlife Trust

On behalf of the Kent Wildlife Trust, Ian Rickards received a cheque for £5,000. This was for their exemplary work and dedication across the county and in particular in the Ashford Borough. Their work with volunteers, communities and other organisations have raised awareness of wildlife issues and increased habitats for many species.

The Trust has been a consistent and valued partner with Ashford Borough Council for a number of years and through their innovative projects and events have connected people with nature teaching them the value of the world around us.

The £5,000, with an additional £2,500 granted by Mr Mike Bax – Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Kent and also Chairman of Kent Wildlife Trust, will enable Kent Wildlife Trust to purchase the special grass cutter/mower for the wild flower meadows.

The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust

Cllr Blanford also presented a cheque of £3,320.76 to her second charity which was received by Gary Fagg, CEO of The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust, for their commitment and incredible work in changing the lives of those living with diabetes.

She added in her presentation, “Both Paula Carr Diabetes Trust and Hypo Hounds are involved in supporting families with members suffering from diabetes. In addition, The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust finds medical improvements to help patients live as normal a life as possible. I am delighted to be able to support this good cause.”
