Margate RNLI looks forward to another Emergency Services Day

Emergency Services Day

Following the success of a similar event last year, Margate RNLI along with other Thanet emergency services are planning another maritime-themed Emergency Services Day for this year.

The day will be a family-oriented event providing a unique opportunity to see and meet the emergency services both voluntary and full-time who may otherwise be hidden away behind closed doors while also allowing the opportunity to pass on useful hints and tips to make a trip to the seaside a safe one for locals and visitors alike.

Representatives present will include: Margate RNLI’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats and Thanet RNLI lifeguards; HM Coastguard; Kent Fire and Rescue Service; South East Coast Ambulance Service; Kent Marine Police Unit and Thanet RNLI Community Safety Team.

Practical advice including basic first aid, and line-throwing techniques will also be available with the Thanet RNLI Community Safety Team on hand to provide vital information on all aspects of coastal safety.

Other services in addition to the above may be on hand on the day but of course much will depend on operational availability of all involved – it will be a fun day for those taking part but as for all the emergency service it is another day on duty.

The event will be held at the RNLI lifeboat station, The Rendezvous, Margate CT9 1HG (behind Turner Contemporary) between 11am and 3.30pm on Sunday 12 August 2018, admission is free. There are no parking facilities at the location itself, pay and display parking is available on the adjacent stone pier or by following the local road signs to public car parks.

Guy Addington, RNLI Community Safety Partner said:

“The public usually only get to see the emergency services when things go wrong so this is the opportunity to get to know them and get an insight into the equipment and men and women behind the uniforms. Last year was particularly popular with children but for us it is a special opportunity to provide safety messages for all so that hopefully people will not get to see them in a professional capacity!”
