Life as a parish councillor is really rewarding

On Thursday 2 May, thousands of voters from across the district will be choosing who will represent them on their parish council.

If you are interested in standing up for your community, helping to set your parish council’s priorities or simply want to give something back to the area where you live, representatives from the Kent Association of Local Councils (KALC) would like to meet you.

With the support of Canterbury City Council, they are holding an event to explain what being a parish councillor means in practice and just how rewarding it can be. It will take place at the Guildhall, St Peter’s Place, Canterbury, at 6.30pm on Tuesday 26 March.

KALC Chief Executive Terry Martin said: “People from all walks of life become councillors. Their breadth of expertise and experience is invaluable and helps parish councils to make better decisions.

“It is a really rewarding role and we would encourage as many people as possible to come along and find out more.”

The Notice of Election for parish councils was published last Friday (15 March) and outlines how many councillors are needed for each.

Councillors for the newly-formed Hersden Parish Council will be chosen for the very first time.

Nomination papers for all parish council seats need to be returned by 4pm on Wednesday 3 April.
