Your Leisure takes over operating Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre

Thanet based Your Leisure took over the operation of Aylesham’s Welfare & Leisure Centre on Wednesday 1 May.

The change of operators was a mutually agreed transfer from the outgoing provider, Freedom Leisure to Your Leisure (Kent) Ltd.

Managing Director of Your Leisure, Kevin Fordham, said: “This is a great opportunity for us and we look forward to working with the Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare Scheme to bring about the long-term success of the facility, building on what Freedom Leisure have achieved over the last eight years.

“We will shortly be conducting some initial market research to better understand what customers and the local community want from their leisure centre including the services to be offered.

“I would like to thank Freedom Leisure for its support and co-operation during the transfer period as this has ensured the centre continues to operate and provide services to the community. We look forward to working with the Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare Scheme, customers and residents over the coming months.”

Freedom Leisure’s area manager Neil Roberts said: “It is with a heavy heart we have decided to cease managing the centre as we thoroughly enjoyed supporting the active community in Aylesham. We have had a great relationship with the management committee since commencing our partnership in September 2010.

“As a not-for-profit trust Freedom Leisure reinvests surpluses back into the local community and facilities it operates and is delighted to have invested £500,000 in the centre.”

Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare Scheme would like to thank the staff and management of Freedom Leisure for all the work they have done for the village and surrounding area during the last eight years. The management committee will endeavour to build on Freedom Leisure’s legacy with Your Leisure to provide sporting and cultural activities for the Aylesham  community.

There will be no changes to the current arrangements for the time being, as it is Your Leisure’s aim to engage with as many current customers and the local community to gain valuable feedback on the future provision and services at the facility.
