Kent Adult Education nominated for national award to be presented by celebrity host

Kent Adult Education (KAE) has been nominated for a prestigious national award in recognition of the fantastic opportunities it offers thousands of adults across the county.

The organisation is up against seven others in the ‘Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year’ category in the TES (formally Times Educational Supplement) FE (Further Education) Awards for 2018.

Now in their seventh year, the awards celebrate excellence and innovative practice across the Further Education sector.

Adults across Kent can learn a range of subjects including business and IT and languages

A record number of colleges and training providers submitted entries for this year’s awards, which saw a number of new categories, including the one KAE is in the running for.

Award-winning comedian and actor Alan Davies will present the awards during a black-tie ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Friday, February 23.

Roger Gough, KCC’s cabinet member for children, young people and education, said: “We are extremely proud that Kent Adult Education is among the nominees for the well-respected TES FE Awards for 2018.

“KAE provides an extensive programme of vibrant, diverse and challenging courses, which meet the varied needs and interests of Kent’s communities.

Fitness and well-being courses are also available through Kent Adult Education

“We would like to congratulate all the hardworking KAE staff and learners and wish them every success at the awards ceremony.”

KAE sits within the Community Learning and Skills (CLS) department at Kent County Council.

There are 13 KAE centres across Kent offering an extensive range of courses under headings that include languages, the arts, fitness and well-being, counselling and psychology, business and IT and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

More than 25,500 adults enrolled on KAE courses in 2016/17 and the courses are aimed at all members of the community with a number designed specifically for families, people in disadvantaged areas and non-English speakers.
