The heat is on for highways

Now the weather is warmer and drier, you may have seen our highways teams carrying out surface dressing on Hampshire’s roads. We’re often asked why we choose this method of maintenance over others, how we determine which roads are done, and why we do the work during the summer.

Calshot: Remember it back then?

With fantastic new adventures such as AeroTrek and Laser Climb recently added to their activities repertoire, it is an exciting time at Calshot Activities Centre. But how many people remember the centre’s earliest adventures, back in 1964? We take a look at Calshot then and now.

Looking after Hampshire’s wildlife

It’s that time of year when wild flowers are springing up along Hampshire’s rural roadside verges, bringing them alive with colourful displays that are a delight to see. There are currently 198 sites across the county that are known to offer vital refuge for rare species of plants and other wildlife, so when we send out our grass cutters, these habitats are given special attention

Her Majesty’s special links with park

May is a particularly special month in the history of Royal Victoria Country Park. Not only does it mark 200 years since the birth of the country park’s namesake, Queen Victoria (24 May 1819), but it’s also the time of year when the British Monarch laid the Netley Military Hospital’s foundation stone (19 May 1856).  Phil Halliwell, from the park, tells us more about Queen Victoria’s very special history with Royal Victoria Country Park.
