Chelmsford City Council is inviting comments on three draft planning documents, which help to implement its recently adopted Local Plan – and following previous consultations, has adopted two more.

South Woodham Ferrers Neighbourhood Plan – this has been developed by South Woodham Ferrers (SWF) Town Council and proposes local planning policies for SWF. Once adopted, it will become part of Chelmsford’s Local Plan. Consultation starts at 10am on Thursday 1 October and closes at 4pm on Thursday 12 November.

Making Places Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) – This document is about making sure developments built here are high-quality and sustainable. It sets out the standards the City Council will ask for when considering all future planning proposals, from big developments to small house extensions. Consultation starts at 10am on Thursday 15 October and closes at 4pm on Thursday 12 November.

Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) – This sets out the Council’s approach towards asking for financial contributions to the community when considering planning applications. It identifies when contributions may be asked for, depending on the scale of development, and how much. Consultation starts at 10am on Thursday 15 October and closes at 4pm on Thursday 12 November. You can read and comment on all three documents on Chelmsford City Council’s Consultation Portal at https://consult.chelmsford.gov.uk/portal or on the consultation page at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/new-local-plan

For the latest opening restrictions, please visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/coronavirus/ Two new planning documents were adopted at the Council’s Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 8 September:

· Statement of Community Involvement – this sets out the Council’s strategy for involving you in planning matters. It includes different types of consultation and engagement, how we will involve you in making planning policy and when considering planning applications, who we will consult and the ways we will consult them. More information can be found at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/sci

· Essex Coast RAMS Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) – this strategy is vital for protecting rare birds in our local area. It’s a supporting document which councils and developers use in their daily work to reduce pressure from visitors. The actions in it will be funded through a charge to developers for each house they build. More information can be found at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/RAMS
