This May on the 11th and 13th, The Playhouse in Whitstable will be entertaining those in attendance with their production of Daisy Pulls It Off.

CommunityAd sat down with the director of Daisy Pulls it Off, Justine Sewell, and the Publicity Officer, Lucie Nash to find out more about this wonderful show…

What can the audience expect from your upcoming production of Daisy Pulls It Off?

The Lindley Players upcoming production of “Daisy Pulls It Off” promises to be a delightful romp through the hallowed halls of Grangewood School for Young Ladies. The audience can expect to be transported back in time to the 1920s and fully immersed in the charming world of Daisy Meredith, the plucky scholarship student who is determined to prove herself in the face of adversity.

With a talented cast of adults and young people, witty dialogue, and clever staging, our production will capture the spirit of this classic British comedy and bring it to life on stage. Audiences can look forward to an evening of laughter, hijinks, and heart-warming moments as Daisy and her friends navigate the challenges of school life and uncover a mystery that threatens to shake the foundations of Grangewood itself.

What makes ‘Daisy’ extra special is that we have a few members of the Lindley youth group in the production. It’s great to see youth members ‘graduating’ to the adult shows, and we have a very talented bunch of teenagers in Daisy Pulls It Off, as well as a few eccentric adult cast members!

Overall, our production of “Daisy Pulls It Off” promises to be a delightful and entertaining experience that is not to be missed!

What makes the Playhouse a special theatre to perform in?

As The Lindley Players, the Playhouse is our home. It’s Whitstable’s only theatre, and it means so much to the community and specifically our company of players. The theatre is run by a team of volunteers – no one is paid a thing. Every show that is put on, or catered for when we hire out to other companies, is done out of love for theatre!

That being said it is hard to staff every show and we are always looking for more volunteers. So if acting or directing isn’t your thing, come and join us for front of house, bar, ice creams – it’s fun, sociable and a hobby like no other!

Just how important is it to keep theatre in Whitstable and are there any further upcoming shows you are planning to put on later this year at The Playhouse?

It’s SO important to keep theatre in Whitstable. Theatre brings people together, it gives audience members different worlds to escape to or experience. When we put on drama, our audiences experience a type of catharsis by following a character’s journey, and we receive audience reactions like no other – it feels like a group emotional experience.

When we put on comedy, it’s the same group experience, but usually audiences can escape with us to somewhere silly or ridiculous. There really is something for everyone in live theatre, a shared experience, whatever you may be looking for, and Whitstable audiences are the best.

We’ve recently finished a highly acclaimed dramatic production of ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’ which was a little risqué, so now we’re flipping back to light hearted family comedy and fun for Daisy Pulls It Off. We even have a matinée performance to make it easier for families or people who don’t like to go out in the evenings.

Coming up after ‘Daisy’ is Tom Stoppard’s ‘Arcadia’ – another challenging piece involving maths, drama and different periods of history. And in September we will be bringing back another musical theatre showcase ‘Songs of the Stage and Screen’.
