Fun workshop introduces children to Shakespeare

A special day of workshop activities at The Beaney on Saturday 13 July will introduce children to the works of Shakespeare.

The event, taking place as part of the Canterbury Shakespeare Festival, is for children aged four to 12 and will feature a range of fun sessions.

These include a beginner’s guide to reading Shakespeare, Shakespeare character acting, learning a Shakespearean jig and a fight workshop (for children aged eight to 12 only).

There is also an arts and crafts workshop where children can make their own masks, fairy wings, finger puppets and more.

Chairman of the city council’s Community Committee, Cllr Neil Baker, said: “These sessions are a fun and engaging way for children to get an introduction to one of the country’s greatest writers.

“The Canterbury Shakespeare Festival is now a firm favourite on the city’s events line-up. We’re very pleased to be supporting it through these activities at The Beaney.”

Tickets cost £6 and can be reserved by emailing [email protected]. Advance booking must be made for the fight workshop and space on this session is limited.

The Beaney will also host a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear in the Explorers Gallery on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 August.
