Free Parking on Saturdays For All This Christmas

Shoppers are to receive an early Christmas present from Folkestone & Hythe District Council in the form of free parking on Saturdays.

Charges in all the council’s pay and display car parks, and on-street parking bays, across the whole district are to be waived on Saturdays 8, 15 and 22 December.

Cllr Ann Berry, Cabinet Member for Transport and Commercial, said the aim was to support local businesses.

She said: “We want to encourage shoppers into our great town centres and waiving parking charges in council car parks and on-street bays is just one way to do this.

“We’re lucky to have such a wide range of shops and businesses locally, selling everything from unique fashion to hand-crafted homewares, so there really is no need to go further afield.

“Christmas can be a busy and stressful time but shopping locally means you can avoid the traffic and queues around out-of-town shopping centres. You’ll also be able to pick up some really thoughtful and individual gifts, and support local traders at the same time.”

Residents can also apply for a permit to park in all council-run car parks all year round for £60 – visit www.folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/parking/permits to apply.

Some car parks are privately run and those will still be charging, so drivers are urged to check signs before they park.
