Faversham Hop Festival takes place this weekend!

The 2017 Festival takes place on 2nd & 3rd September

Book your camping pitch online at www.favershamhopfestival.org.

This lively and popular event, set in the beautiful medieval heart of Faversham, recalls the traditional festivities associated with the hop harvest and celebrates the town’s unrivalled hop heritage. Now one of the largest free street festivals in the south east, the event boasts plenty to see and do throughout the weekend with entertainment including live music on 5 stages, arts & crafts, Morris Dancers, street performers and processions.

In addition, there are special tours of Shepherd Neame - Britain’s oldest brewer, a home of the hop exhibition in The Old Brewery Store, a traditional funfair and family area plus a street market and a fantastic array of Kentish food and drink – including beer produced in the town, local cider and Kentish apple juice.

Come down to the hop festival and experience the many different stages, beers, entertainment and family fun!

Volunteers ~ Positions Vacant

There are many tasks involved in delivering this major event safely each year, and below we list those we currently need some help with (if something appears to be missing it means that at this stage THAT role is filled but may appear again later should the position become vacant once more).

The roles themselves break down into the following basic categories:-

Runners

These vital roles within the machine just keep everything oiled and running smoothly. Without them, there is no one to re-stock the merchandisers, take water out to the teams on the ground, check on and re-supply the stewards with information leaflets and other materials, manage rotation of the cash donation buckets and carry non-urgent messages back and forth to control.

Ground Crew

These helpers are primarily responsible for setup and take down tasks at the start and end of the festival, and start and end of each day. Roles include helping the security teams site stall holders, accepting and siting toilet units, ensure signs are delivered and erected correctly around the town and the stages (and taken down and collected again), setup and take down of the information / merchandising stands each day and help with cash collection from the merchandising stalls at the entrance points to the festival.

 Stage Helpers

Stage helper roles range from assisting access for performers and VIP guests around the stage, set up / take down of bands (under the direction of the Stage Manager), selling merchandise front of stage, crowd monitoring and distributing water in hot weather.

 Festival Hosts

Stewards are there to keep people happy and keep them smiling, giving out directions, answering questions and generally helping things along. They are never to be considered replacements to police or event security. They are given T-Shirts to help identify them to the visiting public (which they get to keep).

 Marshals

Marshals are there to control and “marshal” the crowd and make sure they go where-ever event control need them to go, for whatever reason (for instance helping direct traffic flow safely into and out of the road closure area). To help them stand out they have hi-vis vests, and are primarily the eyes and ears of event control on the ground.
