Engineers tackle Hastings Harbour Arm coastal protection project
City council engineers are again making waves as they begin work on a £2m scheme to strengthen the Harbour Arm in Hastings.
Working on behalf of Hastings Borough Council through the East Kent Engineering Partnership, the council’s engineering team applied for and secured Environment Agency funding for the important coastal protection works on the Harbour Arm.
The project, which will use 24,000 tonnes of granite, was designed by city council engineers and will be managed by them until completion in August 2018.
Engineering manager, Liam Wooltorton, said:
“The external work undertaken by us for other local authorities in the East Kent Engineering Partnership, South East Coastal Group and the Environment Agency generates an income that averages more than £500,000 a year.”
The income generated from the team’s work within the partnership is vital as it can be used to support other services and projects across the district as well as help to further develop the engineering team.
