Demolition of Former Dover Leisure Centre Set to Start in March

collections

The demolition of the former Dover Leisure Centre in Townwall Street in Dover is set to start week commencing 2 March.

During the demolition, Townwall Street Car Park will completely close, and Woolcomber Street Car Park will partially close, with around 25 spaces retained for use, including the disabled and motorcycle bays.

Alongside this, Dover District Council will continue to work to protect and preserve the ruins of St James Church. A scaffold will be put up around the remains of the church before any significant works start on the demolition of the old leisure centre, and DDC will continue to monitor the church site throughout the demolition of the old leisure centre. A programme of works is set to follow to help conserve the remains of St James Church. The church site will be closed to the public during the demolition of the old leisure centre and whilst restoration works are carried out.

Demolition works on the old Dover Leisure Centre are being carried out by DDS Demolition and are expected to be completed in May. The future use of the site is still being determined.
