Craig visits Sandwich Infant School during National School Sports Week

On Friday Craig Mackinlay MP attended a Sports Day event at Sandwich Infant School in his South Thanet constituency.

The day was the culmination of a week of sporting activities with “potted sports” taking place where the children were put in mixed age teams and moved round to different activities, which were scored.

Stickers were issued to the children who competed.

Libby Wood,Headteacher at Sandwich Infant School, said:

“Our Sports Day is the end of a week of activities.

“This year our PE leader, Hannah Jackson, organised Scoot to School, Archery,  Big Breakfast and Football.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed all the events.

“Sports Day is a family event so the children’s parents and grandparents get an opportunity to share the fun.

“The children’s teams were named after the countries in the Women’s World Cup and everyone cheered when the team representing England won.” 

Craig Mackinlay MP, added:

“I was delighted to visit Sandwich Infant School for the last day of their sporting week, which was made all the better by the excellent weather.

“Regular physical activity is important for the development of children, but it also has to be fun and enjoyable – which it very clearly was. I was particularly taken by the activities which focused on developing teamwork.

“I thank and congratulate the teachers and pupils at Sandwich Infant School on an excellent and successful event.”

The Youth Sports Trust’s National School Sports Week, now in its 11th year, took place between 24th and 28th June. The theme for 2019 was Five Ways to Well Being: being active, connecting, giving back, taking notice and learning.
