Sample the delights of the Kentish Cherry at Brogdale this July with delicious cherries from the heart of the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale Collections on Sunday 21st July 2019.

Family fun and cherries galore are what’s in store at the Cherry Fair this July.

Discover the fruit filled orchards on a guided tractor trailer or walking tour, Brogdale’s expert & knowledgeable guides will lead you on a journey through the fascinating orchards and their history. Taste some of our 300 varieties of Cherries surrounded by the beautiful trees – a truly amazing way to spend the afternoon.

Take the cherry pip spit challenge and see if you can break the Brogdale record. The judges will be getting out the tape measure as visitor’s battle each other for the title for longest cherry pip spit. The whole family can have a go; the record to beat is an amazing 53ft so be ready to take on the challengers at Cherry Fair. Get messy in the cherry pie eating contest – the no hands competition is a great chance for all the family to get stuck in.

Head to the cherry barn to see the fascinating cherry display. With over 325 varieties of cherries in the National Fruit Collections at Brogdale there are some intriguing histories, flavours and delights to taste, for example the “Roundel Heart” cherry grown in Kent since the 1900s and bursting with a sweet flavour, or the “Kentish Red” sour cherry found in Kent since the 18th century or maybe even the usual “Donisssens Gelbe” – a juicy yellow skinned cherry sure to stand out. Choose your favourite and purchase a punnet to enjoy on the spot or take them home and share them to delight your friends and family.

Half term fun at BrogdaleCome along to the demo kitchen and learn how to make some delicious cherry themed delights with cooking demonstrations from the BBC Great British Bake Off finalist Jane Beedle. Learn all about Micro Brewing with Mad Cat in their on-site brewery, then head to the rural talks area for Beekeeping with Canterbury Beekeepers. Alternatively discover all you need to know about planting your fruit trees with our on hand experts from GROW gardening.

Shop handmade crafts by local artists and bring along a picnic to enjoy on the meadow, you can top up your feast with yummy treats from the artisan food stalls and enjoy a classic Mr Whippy from the ice cream man. Enjoy the fun tunes of Ry Robson’s Oogie Boogie Band, playing throughout the day.

Little ones can get stuck into cherry crafts, create a beautiful reminder of their day with a magical memory stick, get their faces painted and have a bounce on the bouncy pirate ship. Bring along your bravest teddy bears for the teddy bear parachuting with Kent Kite Flyers. Get the whole family along to meet the animals at animal corner and cheer on their favourites in the pig racing. Take aim with the archery skills corner or take a ride on the enchanting Faversham Miniature railway through the fruiting orchards.
