Consultation over taxi driver guidance nears end

marcus

Time is running out to have your say about how taxi drivers and vehicles are licensed across the Lewes district.

The wide-ranging consultation was launched by Lewes District Council at the beginning of August and ends on Wednesday, 26 September.

The council is the licensing authority for all Hackney Carriage and Private Hire applicants in the district.

The current policy was introduced more than 10 years ago and so the review is taking into consideration changes in legislation such as the Deregulation Act and the Equality Act, environmental assessments, safeguarding and the latest car and driver technology, such as CCTV.

Councillor Isabelle Linington, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environmental Impact, said: “In 2008 we were dealing with a very different landscape for the taxi industry than the one we have today.

“I hope as many people as possible take part in this consultation by reading the draft guidance and completing our online survey.”

Comments are invited from residents, drivers, operators and other stakeholders.

The draft guidance and ways to provide feedback can be viewed on the Lewes District Council website – www.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/taxi-consultation

You can also pick up a paper copy of the guidance and survey in the reception areas of the council’s Lewes or Newhaven offices.
