Community wins with lottery grants

Havant Borough Council is delighted to announce details of the latest groups who have benefitted from the Havant Borough Community Lottery.

Grants totalling more than £9,000 have been awarded to 10 lucky groups who offer activities and projects to residents of all ages in the borough, encouraging them to live well and feel well.

Good causes applied to the Lottery Community Fund and have been awarded grants for new equipment, to help organise events and to provide ongoing activities. One grant will be used to install a bird hide and wetlands area for school pupils to enjoy.

The good causes who successfully applied for grants include:

  • Homestart, Hayling Island – £2,500
  • The Spring, Havant – £1,500
  • Hampshire and West Sussex Hindu Cultural Society – £1,000
  • MHA Live at Home, Havant – £1,000
  • Heart of Hayling Boxing Club – £799.50
  • Many Shades of Grey Walking Football Club, Havant – £600
  • Bedhampton Community Centre, Havant – £514.92
  • Morelands Primary School, Waterlooville – £500
  • Waterlooville Bowling Club – £465
  • Havant Borough Talking Newspaper – £218.87

One recipient from The Heart of Hayling Boxing Club said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to purchase the kit that our aspiring boxers need, thank you so much for the grant which will enable us to do this.”

Also awarded a grant, a member from the Many Shades of Grey Walking Football Club added: “This will help immensely in promoting our attendance at Walking Football festivals next year.”

Twice a year groups can apply to the Community Fund, part of Havant Borough Community Lottery. Applications are reviewed by a panel of council and community representatives.

To apply for a grant groups must already be registered as a good cause with the lottery.

The Community Fund is a grant scheme using funding generated through tickets sales from the Havant Borough Community Lottery. From every ticket sold, 10% goes to this fund along with 50% of each ticket going to the player’s chosen good cause.

More than 100,000 tickets have been sold since April 2018, raising more than £60,000 for local groups.
