A scheme starts soon to improve pedestrian access to community facilities in Ansty.

The £90,000 project will install new lengths of footway at the A272, B2036 and Deaks Lane, near the mini-roundabout.

A West Sussex Highways spokesperson said: “This scheme will improve and extend footway connectivity to the Village Hall, cricket ground, children’s play area and bus laybys. Some enhanced, uncontrolled pedestrian crossing points will also be installed.

“The proposals were requested by Ansty Parish Council through the county council’s Community Highway Scheme and were supported by the local county councillor.”

Subject to factors such as severe weather, work is scheduled to take place from 6 January to 21 February 2020.

Temporary traffic lights will be needed 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday, for the safety of both road users and the workforce.

The spokesperson added: “Every effort will be made to try to minimise the impact of the project and minimise delays, especially during peak periods. However, some queuing can be expected.”

Access for pedestrians and vehicles will be maintained, although lengths of footway may be temporarily closed where works are underway and pedestrians will be redirected to use the available alternatives. Businesses will be able to open as usual throughout.
