Being beside the seaside – With new beach huts at St Margaret’s Bay

collections

Ten new beach huts are on the way at St Margaret’s Bay, along with the extensive refurbishment of the 14 huts already at the site, following a decision by Dover District Council’s Cabinet in May, and planning approval on Friday, (29 June 2018).

The existing beach huts at St Margaret’s Bay are to have new felted timber roofs with new timber front walls with glazed double doors. The new beach huts will have timber plank walls and felted roofs.  All glazed doors are to have timber storm shutters.

As part of the £100k refurbishment of St Margaret’s Bay, the existing hedges will be cut back to open up the sea views, and new plants will be put in that are suitable for the marine environment.  There is already a waiting list for the beach huts, and the list is currently closed to new applicants.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, DDC Cabinet Member for Property Management, said:

“There is a clear demand for beach huts in this fantastic location, and we’re delighted to invest in these refurbishments and new facilities for the district.”
