WORLD PREMIERE: Ode To A Lounge Lizard at the Sarah Thorne Theatre

The world premiere of Ode To A Lounge Lizard will take place on Saturday March 7 at the Sarah Thorne Theatre, Broadstairs. This piece of music theatre is conceived by and stars Canadian born / UK based musician / composer, Jamie Moore.

This is not Jamie’s first venture into writing and performing a piece of music theatre.  Some may remember his performance as Burt Bacharach in the popular Mosaic Cat cabaret production of Back to Back by Bacharach – written by Jamie Moore and Graeme Davies. Others may recall his Wonder Woman – A One Act Song Cycle at the Sarah Thorne Theatre last spring. Wonder Woman received excellent reviews when it premiered in the Purcell Room at London’s South Bank Centre and then on tour. The most recent revival starred the internationally acclaimed soprano Laure Meloy and featured some of Kent’s finest musicians.

When Jamie was asked how he came up with the idea for Ode To A Lounge Lizard, he said ‘A great deal of my career as a musician has been spent playing lounge music in North America, around the world and for twenty five years in London’s West End. I owe a lot to this music and the freedom it gave me to develop as a performer. In North America, singers and musicians who played in lounges were known as ‘lounge lizards’ – not a lot of people in this country know that. Some years ago, as the world was speeding up and age was catching up, the title – Ode To A Lounge Lizard – popped into my head and I thought that someday, when the time was right, I’d create and perform something with music and stories to celebrate that character and others like him. That time has come.’

Jamie Moore is also an accomplished guitarist who has performed throughout the world in a wide variety of settings including television, radio, West End theatre, touring stage productions, summer seasons, recording studios, cabaret, concert halls and of course – in lounges. He is well known to music enthusiasts in Kent for his performances as a member of the chamber jazz ensemble CUBE, the guitar ensemble Guitar Conspiracy, his duo with fellow guitarist Dave Reay, collaborations with cabaret artist Brigitta Baden-Rennie and his solo work.

Ode To A Lounge Lizard was co-written and directed by Patricia Mahoney with sound design by the multi-talented percussionist / composer Dave Robinson (CUBE, Zen Bicycle Band) and lighting design by the visionary David Downes-Powell.

Ode To A Lounge Lizard is certain to be an entertaining evening for music and theatre lovers. Early booking is recommended.
