Works Start On Major Restoration Of Kearsney Abbey Billiards Room And Cafe Extension

Building works are set to start on Monday 8 October on the exciting restoration of the Kearsney Abbey Billiards Room and café extension, as part of the £3.1m Heritage Lottery funded Kearsney Parks project.

Works will include the restoration of the Grade ll listed former billiards room, along with the construction of a 180sq. m. new build extension. The extension will provide an enlarged café with modern kitchen facilities, as well as new toilets, which will be fully accessible.

As part of the work to extend the café, we will need to close the car park next to the café in Kearsney Abbey until works are complete. This car park will close from the afternoon of Sunday 30 September, to allow the site to be prepared. There will be no parking in this area. There will still be pedestrian access to the toilets, which will stay open throughout the works.

The western car park (opposite Russell Gardens) will still be open.  We are aiming to provide some disabled parking in this car park while the works take place.

The last day that the current Kearsney Abbey café will be open to the public is Friday 28 September.  A mobile café is due to be on site, near the playground in Kearsney Abbey, from 1 October. We are aiming for the new café to be open by the end of next summer.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, DDC Cabinet Member for Property Management, said: “Kearsney Abbey is one of the most popular public parks in East Kent, and we are delighted to be making these improvements.  We will need to close the car park by the café while we carry out works, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.”
