Woolworths set to return to high streets next year

An announcement today has confirmed that everyone’s favourite high street store, Woolworths, is set to return to our high streets late next year with a 3-store trial.

The much-loved store, which is famous for its pick ‘n’ mix, children’s clothes, DVDs and a plethora of other goods, closed all its stores by January 2009 and now, after eleven years, it seems we will all soon once again be revelling in everything the shop has to offer.

The retail store created a brand new Twitter page in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 27 October), which has already garnered some serious attention.  The very first tweet from the new page (@UKWoolworths) stated, “9am today! We have an announcement. #Woolworths“, which was followed (after a few more suggestive tweets) with:

So, you’ve heard it from the horse’s mouth; Woolworths UK is here to save 2020 and to give us all a much-needed, healthy dose of nostalgia.

Former director of Woolies (as it’s affectionately known) Tony Page said they are interested in having their stores placed at ‘the heart of the community’ rather than in big shopping centres.

We don’t know about you, but we’re exceedingly excited to see how this plays out, and we can’t wait to see Woolies back on the high streets!
