This list of regular events in Aylesham is published most Wednesdays by the Dover District Council village based communications office which does not accept any liability for errors and omissions.

What’s On

Wednesday 1 May 7.30pm-9.30pm – Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Weekly rehearsal for Snowdown Colliery Brass Band. Some instruments available. If it’s been a while since you last played, that doesn’t matter – feel free to come along and join in.

Thursday 2 May 9.30am-12pm – Aylesham library, Community Workshop site, Ackholt Road. Weekly Citizens Advice Bureau drop in session.

Thursday 2 May 10.30am-12pm – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. The Vari Vocals singing group holds its weekly meeting. It is always on the look out for new members. Friday 3 May 11.15am-1.30pm – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. Friday lunch club for those aged 55 or more. £5 for a two course lunch, cuppa and a raffle. Mini market from 12pm to 1.30pm as well.

Friday 3 May 7pm-8.30pm – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. The Aylesham Scout group meets every Friday evening for young people aged 11 or older to enjoy a wide range of activities and games. If you think your child might be interested in joining, or you are willing to help run the group, please get in touch with leader Cassandra Osborne via 01304 841573 or 07488 243525.

Thursday 9 May 7pm – Aylesham Parish Council holds its monthly meeting at the White House office in Dorman Avenue South. Residents are welcome to attend. Anybody wishing to speak about an agenda item is asked to first contact the parish office on 01304 840377 or email via [email protected].

Saturday 18 May 11am-4pm – Aylesham Bowls Club, beside Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, off Spinney Lane. The club hosts an open day for anybody who wants to try out green bowls as a new pastime. All abilities and ages are welcome. Equipment and coaching will be provided, free, on the day and there is no need to book – simply turn up.  Best footwear is a pair of flat-soled, heel-less shoes or trainers.

Saturday 18 May 1.30pm and 2.30pm, The Old School Hall, Aylesham & District Community Workshop Trust, Ackholt Road. Aylesham Community Hub hosts a public meeting to announce the findings of its initial survey into improving community facilities in the village. The Hub team will share illustrative plans for the building based on suggestions received so far, and explain the next steps in the project. The first talk is at 1.30pm and the second is at 2.30pm. What’s On at Bechange Community Hub

Every week – Games and Pastimes runs every Thursday from 10am to 12.30pm and you can join this friendly group who play a range of games including card, games, Scrabble and bridge.

Upcycling runs every Friday, drop in any time between 10am and 2pm to join the group who upcycling furniture and other pre-loved items

Wednesday 1 May onwards – Residents can drop in every Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 12pm to Bechange’s walk in support services. Guidance and support in issues such as benefit entitlement, housing, budgeting or help with filling in/understanding forms will al be available.  Most Fridays Bechange  also hosts  an NHS OneYou Adviser who can offer support on issues which affect physical and mental health.

Thursday 2 May – Story and Rhyme Time – 0-4 with a parent/carer. Come and listen to a story for babies and 0-4 years and parents/carers on Thursday 2 May between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.  A fun and lively session with singing, stories and action rhymes, musical instruments and lots more! No need to book a place £1.00 per child. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Friday 3 May and Friday 7 June – A NHS OneYou adviser will be available for adults to drop in health checks and health MOTs.

Wednesday 8 May onwards – CAP Money Course for adults – If you would like to know more about how you can budget and save money why not come along to this evening course delivered by City Impact on 8th, 15th and 22nd May, 7pm to 9pm.

Tuesday 14 May – Emergency First Aid is a free course for adults who wish to learn how to give first aid in an emergency. It involves hands-on practical teaching and demonstrations including defibrillator training. The course is facilitated by Kent Adult Education Response. A certificate will be issued on satisfactory completion and a short test, which is then valid for three years.  The next course will be held on Tuesday 14 May from  9.30am to 4.30pm. Refreshments and lunch provided.

Friday 17 May – Bechange holds a Swap Shop event from 11.30am. Swap those pre-loved but outgrown children clothes, toys and children equipment.

Wednesday 5 June – Wednesday 26 June – Following Bechange’s successful programme Games, Tools and Adventures for young people funded by Kent County Council, Bechange is now able to offer a new programme,  Clash of Pans funded by KCC and Persimmon Homes.  This free course for young people in years 7 – 11 will include learning practical cookery skills, healthy eating and experimenting with different ingredients.  Participants will cook a snack in our kitchen to enjoy at the end of the session. Weekly Wednesday afternoon 4.30pm to 6pm.

Thursday 6 June to Thursday 4 July – Smart Families Get Fit Together is a free course for families with children in reception to year six.  Families will cook together and make healthy family meals and snacks as well as take part in a fun Active Kids session.  All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Starting on Thursday 6 June to Thursday 4 July 3.15pm – 4.45pm.
