Two businesses on Castle Street in Dover have been given a welcome boost – with news that Blakes of Dover and Ivy Rose are the latest businesses to benefit from Dover District Council’s Town Centre Business Grants.

New wedding shop, Ivy Rose has received a grant of £6,500 for a shop refurbishment, to help bring the empty shop back into use.

Bar and restaurant, Blakes in Dover has received a £1,000 grant for a shop front refurbishment, including replacement windows.

DDC’s grants scheme offers grants of up to £10,000 to bring commercial properties back into use, or up to £1,000 to upgrade or improve the appearance of commercial properties in designated town centre areas in Dover, Deal and Sandwich.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to help these local businesses through DDC’s Town Centre Business Grants, and to see this prominent Dover street continue to thrive with its amazing views up to the castle, and we wish them every success for the future.”

Kadrin Uzunov from Blakes of Dover said: “I would like to say a big thank you to DDC for taking the time to meet with me and to explain how they could help with my project. Thank you for the grant you have provided. We look forward to continuing to provide a warm welcome to the local community and visitors to the town.”

Amy Beanie from Ivy Rose, said: “We are delighted to have received this grant from DDC, and to open our wedding shop on Castle Street. We are looking forward to helping our customers get everything they need for their big day.”
