Waste and Recycling News in Essex

infrastructure boost

Here is the latest monthly newsletter from Essex County Council and Love Essex. Here is information on summer recycling centre opening times and news about free compost workshops.

Recycling centre summer opening times

From 1 March, recycling centres across Essex are changing their opening times. However, just because recycling centres are opening longer, always think before you visit. Is there an easier way to pass on your unwanted items? We’ve summarised how you can give items extra life and support your local community.

If it’s too good to throw away then give it a new home.

Spring compost workshops

This Spring the Love Essex team, in partnership with the WasteBusters volunteers, are running a series of composting workshops to help residents in Essex to start composting at home.

To sign up for an event, simply complete our online survey.

Do you want to win a free cloth nappy hamper?

We’ve launched our cloth nappy competition and we’re giving away a Little Lamb nappy hamper worth £99.

If you were to switch just one nappy every day, that would be 365 fewer disposable nappies going to waste each year. A small change can make a big difference.

Success for toy donation project

The toy donation project held in the Brentwood, Epping and Colchester areas late last year was a huge success.

Over 4,000 toys were donated to worthy causes in Essex, equating to a whopping 4 tonnes.

Thank you to all the people who got involved in the project.

More water butts to win

Did you know if you and 30 neighbours each had a 200-litre water butt, you could stop 6,000 litres of water entering local drains during heavy rainfall?

We’ve still got water butts to win. Simply sign the pledge and learn more about how you can reduce flood risk in your local area.

Mythbuster: Are Blister packs recyclable?

Colds and flus this time of year are common. When you’ve finished the last pill in the blister pack some people place them in their recycling. Sadly, the plastic is not recyclable, so will need to be placed in your general waste bin.

If you find you have blister packs that are out-of-date and unopened, please return them to your local pharmacy to dispose of them securely.
