Visit historic Westenhanger Castle and grounds at open day

Residents have the chance to look around a castle packed full of history at an open day taking place later this month.

Westenhanger Castle – an important site in our district dating back to medieval times – was bought by Folkestone & Hythe District Council (F&HDC) in the summer as part of our progressive plans for the area and ensure its future as a community asset.

The purchase included the castle, barns and 14 acres of surrounding parkland once owned by royalty and nobility including Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.

Members of the public are being invited to see this fantastic historic asset for themselves on Saturday 30 November between 10am and 2pm.

This is an exciting opportunity to visit grounds rich in national and historic importance. The event will also showcase what a fantastic and forward-thinking purchase this was for the council and the district as a whole. Our plans include creating a spectacular new public park around the castle including a lake, an improved water course and a refilled moat for everyone to enjoy.

Cllr David Monk, F&HDC Leader

The complex is a Scheduled Ancient Monument consisting of a 14th century fortified, moated quadrangular castle with a Grade-I listed manor house and barn.
