Valentine flowers with a difference at Brockhill Country Park

Brockhill Country Park is offering a sustainable alternative to a bouquet of flowers this Valentine’s Day, asking the public to swap their normal bouquet of flowers for a patch of wildflower meadow.

It means you can not only show your love for someone special in your life, but also show how much you love the local wildlife too!

Wildflower meadows are in decline across the UK and provide a valuable habitat for many species. The park currently sustains patches of meadows across the site and staff are keen to increase this important project and get the public involved too.

“We have been working hard with volunteers to improve the grassland communities at Brockhill Country Park by sowing wildflower seed and increasing the diversity of species,” said Head Ranger for East Kent Louis Grover.

“We are now looking for more help from people in Kent who share our passion for wildlife and want to get involved. Our management plan for Brockhill, and the supply of nectar to bees and other insects who so vitally rely on this resource, is something that everyone can support and encourage.”

The special Valentine packs can be ordered online for just £5.50 and contain a voucher, wildflower seeds, a wooden marker, instructions and a map. Everything you need to plant a patch of meadow at Brockhill.

You are welcome to visit the park any time from Valentine’s Day until the end of March to plant your seeds in the designated area. Then come back year after year as your seeds bloom and, hopefully, your relationship does too!

Ella Austin, Visitor Services and Events Officer at Brockhill says “We are really excited to be able to provide a more sustainable alternative to the traditional Valentine’s Day flowers. We hope that participants will not only have something lovely to give on Valentine’s Day but the lasting memories of coming out to the park to create a special space for their loved one.”

You will need to act quickly if you want to impress your loved one on 14th February. The Valentine packs need to be ordered by Monday 10th of February to be with you in time. Packs can still be ordered after this date, but delivery cannot be guaranteed.

Head to Brockhill website- Kent.gov.uk/CountryParks and select February 14th on the events page to order.
