Two key plans go out for consultation

Two key documents that will shape the district’s future and protect its past are now available for people to comment on.

Consultation on Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s Core Strategy Review Submission Draft and its Heritage Strategy opened on 25 January and will run until 5pm on Monday 11 March.

The Core Strategy Review (CSR) sets out where homes and jobs – needed now and in the future – should go.  The Heritage Strategy sets out objectives to promote the district’s heritage and protect historic buildings or sites.

Earlier consultation of the Core Strategy Review attracted several hundred responses from town and parish councils, land owners, organisations and individuals.  Now people are being asked to comment on specific grounds covering the ‘soundness’ of the Submission Draft and whether it complies with legal requirements.

Cllr John Collier, Cabinet Member for the District Economy, thanked everyone who took part in the earlier consultations.

“Wherever possible, comments and observations have been incorporated in the submission documents.
Whether you have responded to previous consultations and would like to do so again or you wish to make a representation for the first time, I would urge you to do so now.”
Cllr John Collier, Cabinet Member for the District Economy

Comments on the Submission Draft will go directly to an independent Planning Inspector for consideration alongside the submitted plan.

Cllr Collier also urged people to have their say on the Heritage Strategy.

“We are fortunate to have a large and enthusiastic group of stakeholders who have already contributed to its creation but now I would urge anyone interested to take a look at the document and have their say. Our district has been moulded by its past and the decisions we make now will influence its future.”
