Treble Success for Romney Marsh Scout Groups

On 2nd November 2019 Romney Marsh District Scouts attended the Kent Scouts Awards Presentation Evening at the Corn Exchange Rochester.

The evening is a celebration of Scouting in Kent and after the County’s AGM the Awards Presentation began.  It was a hugely successful evening for Romney Marsh District with the following County awards being received:

1st Lydd – Growth and Development Award – in recognition for their assistance and guidance with the St Mary’s Bay group – the award was collected by Group Scout Leader Val and Section Leaders: Charmaine, John and Paul.  Val commented  ‘We would go every week programme in hand, we all looked forward to it, the smiles on the beavers and cubs faces was reward enough and through it we have made some strong bonds between our group and St Mary’s Bay. To see St Mary’s Bay group now with an enthusiastic and determined leadership team, their young people confident, having fun and growing, is testament to all those that believed in the group and those that helped from county, district and us 4 leaders from Lydd. Receiving the growth and development award was a proud moment.   It’s a great memory and ultimately the reward will be seeing

the young people grow and learn in their scouting journey.

1st New Romney – Community Project Award – recognising the Groups effort for the Let’s Cover The Marsh In Poppies project.  The award was collected by Group President Veronica Bailey and Section Leaders Gary Murphy, Carolyn Wood-Brignall and Carole Simpson.

1st New Romney Youth Shaped Award – for youth championing The Power of Chocolate – emotional health matters,  a fundraising event for New Romney Counselling Services.  Explorers Jasper Lee and James Allen collected the award.

1st New Romney Group would like to say a huge thank you to all their local supporters who made both awards possible.  Community engagement has a huge part to play in our success.  The initial appeal for 5000 poppies to Cover the Marsh was reached in no time and our final total exceeded 25000 – testament to the response of local people and contributors nationally and internationally.  We are so proud to be part of this unique and supportive community.

Overall this is a great achievement for Romney Marsh Scouting and recognition of the hard work of all our Leaders, Supporters, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
