With more and more people taking much needed trips abroad for a little escape, don’t feel guilty if you’re also looking at flights and perusing the web for the best holiday destination. If you’ve found the perfect getaway and have all your necessities ready for your suitcase, here is a travel checklist to make sure you don’t forget the essentials.

However, during times like this, it’s important to research your destination and check any travel advice for your chosen country. The government has a section on their website for foreign travel advice depending on the country you want to go to.

1. Passport and tickets

To start off the travel checklist, passports and tickets are the essentials you don’t want to forget last minute. You don’t want to arrive to the airport and find yourself in a fluster when you can’t find your passport or boarding ticket. All of your holiday planning will be wasted and you might have to opt for a plastic pool in your garden instead of the sandy beaches abroad. If you plan to bring hand luggage, pack your passport and boarding ticket into your chosen bag the night before to avoid this. But don’t forget to bring your bag!

2. Visas

There are some countries that require for you to have a visa before you can enter the country. To know which countries require a visa, there are sites like Visa Central that have a list of visa information for the countries that need them.

3. Toiletries

Toiletries are other essentials you shouldn’t forget. Pack your toothbrush and toothpaste for minty fresh breath, as well as shampoo and conditioner. If you have a skin care routine, remember to pack the necessary products. Remember your sun cream too if you’re going somewhere hot and burn easily. When packing your toiletries, it’s important to note that airports have a 100ml limit on liquids, so remember to pack large bottles in your suitcase or transfer any liquids into travel containers if you want to carry them in your hand luggage.

4. Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is important to protect you from any financial risks and losses, such as lost belongings or a cancelled flight. So, make sure you are fully insured before you go on holiday to avoid losing money. Sites like AXA and Aviva offer travel insurance and allow you to get a quote.

5. Clothes

Unless you plan to go to a nudist beach, you’ll need to have clothes for your daily activities. If you’re going somewhere cold, remember to layer up and pack a scarf and some gloves. If you plan to go somewhere hot and tropical, remember to bring summery clothes and your swimsuit, bikini or swimming trunks. You should also remember to bring any new outfits you’ve bought specifically for your holiday to take some Instagram-worthy pics!

6. Hotel Bookings

If you’ve already booked your flight but not your hotel, you should do this straight away. It’s important to book your hotel ahead of time to avoid losing out on the best deals and prices. You also don’t want to find out that the hotel you want to stay in is fully booked. When booking your hotel reservation, make sure you print it out. This will make checking in easier and you also have a paper copy of your hotel’s address for taxi drivers.

Take a look at sites like Trivago and Booking.com for the best hotel deals. If you’re unsure about which one to go for, you can compare hotel deals and prices by going on Travel Supermarket.

7. Vaccinations

To avoid putting your health at risk, check whether you need to have certain vaccinations before visiting your destination. Once you’ve determined whether you need to be vaccinated, consult your GP to get the appropriate vaccine so you can enjoy your holiday without any worries.

8. Transport

Of course, you can’t go to your holiday destination without any transport. Unless you plan to pay extra for airport parking, it’s best to hire a transport service to take you. If you’re thinking about doing this, have a browse through our list of airport transfers from our directory.

This is the travel checklist you should follow to ensure you have everything you need. If you need help, advice, or for any enquiries, get in touch with our travel consultants from our directory here. Alternatively, you can also take a look at our travel services from our directory here.
