How to Get Rid of Mould

mould

Mould is a type of fungi that can be present everywhere. It’s found on old food, furniture, plumbing pipes, fabric and especially walls. It’s an organism that frustrates everyone and even if it has been removed, it can sometimes return.

Mould usually grows if there is a water source, food source or moisture within the environment it resides in. If you’re tired of seeing mould, here are a few ways you can remove it.

Ensure there is enough light

Mould can also grow in dark places. So, to make sure that it doesn’t, you should ensure that your home has enough natural light. Open your curtains during the day and let fresh air enter as well.

Ensure that you’re keeping air moisture to a minimum

Since mould grows if there is moisture, make sure that you instantly dry any condensation you notice on your walls or windows. One option you can consider is purchasing moisture traps. Moisture traps work by attracting moisture before it can form into mould, and is usually placed underneath windows or a damp area. Another option is to invest in a dehumidifier, which will remove moisture in the air.

To prevent excess moisture from being released into the air, make sure that bathroom and kitchen doors are closed tightly. You should also ensure that a window is open whenever you’re cooking or using a dryer for your washing.

Regularly clean your home and any organic furniture

This particular fungi grows from spores. We are exposed to mould everyday and these mould spores are usually harmless, but can multiply and start growing if they land on a damp spot. Therefore, regularly cleaning every room in your house will help to remove any dormant spores and will reduce the chances of mould returning. This is also the same for organic furniture since mould feed on organic materials such as wool and cotton. To remove any spores you might have, remember to clean and disinfect your furniture and wash fabrics.

Ensure your home has good ventilation

Ventilation will be able to remove any dampness you might have in your home. Therefore, you need to make sure there is enough ventilation in order to stop dampness from coming back.

Ensure your home is watertight

Since mould grows if there is a water source, you might be experiencing mould growth if water is entering your home due to a damaged or blocked gutter. If this is the source of your problem, the gutter should be repaired, unblocked or replaced. It’s also important to make sure that any sealing around your windows, pipes and doors are intact.

Ensure that your home is insulated

It’s important to ensure that your home is well-insulated since having sufficient insulation will keep air humidity and condensation to a minimum.

These are a few ways you can remove mould, which hopefully helps to solve your problem. However, it’s always best to contact a professional, especially if mould is caused by leaking pipes. Take a look at our list of plumbing services here and our list of cleaning services here.
