From the 7th-13th of February, Children’s Mental Health Week begins! Established by Place2Be, a children’s mental health charity, this year’s theme is ‘Growing Together’ and aims to focus on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.

Launched in 2015, Place2Be is encouraging people to get involved and help spread awareness. So, if you want to know more about this week, make sure you read on!

What is ‘Growing Together’?

People of all ages will be taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week, such as people from youth groups, schools, organisations and other individuals throughout the UK.

With the theme of ‘Growing Together’, the week focuses on the ways we can help each other grow and how we can grow emotionally. It’s all about looking at how the challenges and difficulties we face can help us grow. This is also the same when we try new things, which opens up a lot of possibilities, opportunities and potential even though it may bring us out of our comfort zone.

This theme further emphasises how emotional growth is a process that takes time. It’s normal for us to be in a rut sometimes and it’s also normal for us to feel a little ‘stuck’.

This year, Place2Be are encouraging children, as well as adults, to take a look at how they’ve grown and what they can do to help others with their personal growth.

It’s even more important for us to help spread the word since “1 in 6 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health problem,” according to Place2Be. These children can face problems such as bullying, so make sure you take part in this week by having a read through the many ways to get involved!

How to get involved

If you want to ensure that children have access to mental health support, get yourself busy by doing any of the following.

Download a free fundraising pack

One way to get involved is by downloading Place2Be’s free fundraising pack! In this pack, you’ll find out what you can do to help Place2Be raise vital funds and have access to resources that will help you ‘Dress to Express’. It’s full of tips, arts and crafts, as well as an activity worksheet.

Spread the word through social media

Give this week a shout out through social media posts and stories. Place2Be has a social media guide to help your ideas come to life!

Start a conversation about growth

With this week’s theme being ‘Growing Together’, make sure you start a conversation with your child about the importance of growth. You can do this by playing any of Place2Be’s Growth Stories on their website.

Add yourself to the map

If you’ve planned an event or plan to do an activity for Children’s Mental Health Week, spread the word by adding yourself to Place2Be’s map.

Watch a virtual assembly with your child

Place2Be has teamed up with BAFTA Kids to create two virtual assemblies for this week. One is for primary school children while the other is for those in secondary and high schools. If you want to watch these assemblies with your child, make sure you click here!

Make a donation

To help support this week or Place2Be, consider donating or organising a fundraiser. This will further help the charity to raise more awareness on children’s mental health!
